Letter: The implication is ‘immoral’

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I saw a letter to the editor recently that left a wry impression of racism on the part of several of our candidates for local office in the upcoming election. I find this appalling. To be ignorant of history and yet being willing to showcase this ignorance in a public forum is bad enough, to imply others into this nightmare is small and immoral.

A private citizen owns the land where we, the members of Lane-Armistead Camp 1772, Sons of Confederate Veterans, keep the battle flag of our fathers. Likewise, as a citizen of our free republic, he has exercised the right to advertise for those that he believes will best represent us Mathews Countymen. A very, very important note. You should consider yourself a Mathews Countyman or do the noble thing and recuse yourself from voting in such election. You are to be part of us, or you are not.

Anyone with the IQ of a gnat may quickly ascertain that the war in the 1860s was not over slavery. For our best candidate...
