Letter: The Gloucester Chicks

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I did not know this group of ladies existed until the other day when one of them stopped by Riverside Convalescent Center in Mathews with a large bundle of hand-crocheted afghans and colorful scarves.

They just dropped them off and I did not have a chance to talk with them, but a phone call revealed a lot more. This group of ladies meets weekly at Walmart in Gloucester and crochet near the craft supplies section. They have a great time and, in the process, help others.

Walmart kindly provides the space for them to work and the ladies cover the cost of materials and distributing their works of art to facilities around the area. Our residents love these gifts.

So, please, if you have any skeins of yarn that the ladies could use, please call me at 804-725-9443 and I will make arrangements to pick up and deliver them to this group of fine chicks.

Their work is truly a labor of love.
