Letter: The community’s rampant litter problem

Thank you for putting the spotlight upon the rampant litter problem in our community with your front page call for photos and identification of problem areas. Being among the volunteers who participated in the community-wide clean-up three weeks ago, we wish to offer some commentary on the clean-up event as well as the general litter problem.

The Clean Community Committee did an outstanding job of promoting their event and organizing distribution of safety vests, garbage bags and gloves as well as arranging for the prompt removal of collected trash in conjunction with VDOT and Waste Management. Unfortunately, their efforts did not receive the level of volunteer participation by individuals, businesses and other community organizations that they should have received.
