Letter: The bureaucratic two-step

Hey folks, here’s how government works today. About the middle of January I received a phone call from a man claiming to be a representative of a credit card company that I deal with, saying I was in arrears and asking what I thought were suspicious questions.

I hung up and called the company who said my account was in order and to tell the caller that he had been reported as a scam. To this day that caller has been calling more than half a dozen times a day and every hour on the hour starting at 8 a.m. on Sundays.

I blocked the calls but my mailbox fills up, and this particular phone rings once before blocking, which is annoying to say the least.

I e-mailed the phone company; they never answered. I e-mailed the Virginia Department of Consumer Affairs and never heard back.
