Letter: The border

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

The best estimates are somewhere around 300,000 illegal immigrants crossed our southern border in December 2024 alone. This is over nine times the population of our county of Gloucester. In one month!

You may think this does not affect you. But there are very few to no fiddler crabs at Bill Hogg’s landing; there has always been literally hundreds of thousands as long as I have lived here. They are gone and there are trails all through the marsh where people have been collecting them for sale to bait shops. The ecology of the marsh has been changed, maybe forever.

Ask VMRC about this and they will tell you “It’s an ongoing investigation.” Next time you go to buy bait to go taug or sheepshead fishing, ask the tackle shop where they got the bait to sell you.
