Letter: Thanks for drawing attention to issue

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

Thank you for the editorial on speeding and crosswalks (Dear Motorist, Gazette-Journal, Dec. 10). I both live and work on Main Street in Mathews. It is unbelievable the way people drive on this road. All day long, we watch people trying to cross the road in front of where I work. Nine out of 10 cars do not stop to allow them to cross. This is a tragic accident waiting to happen.

On Friday, Dec. 11, there was actually a deputy parked just up the road. Amazingly, the cars were going slower and allowing people to cross to go to the Post Office! I like to think your editorial DID get someone’s attention. Thank you, Sheriff Mark Barrick, for making cars slow down. I’m sure the county could use the money speeding tickets given anywhere between Hyco and the nursing home would bring in.
