Editor, Gazette-Journal: Many thanks to the hundreds of county residents, students, community groups and businesses who turned out on a chilly Saturday to clean litter from Gloucester roadways and neighborhoods. Though we are still receiving cleanup reports, volunteers removed over 500 bags of trash, along with assorted other tires, car parts, etc. Some groups were ambitious enough to sort materials for recycling and another group even focused on what brands were most often littered. Dedicated volunteers working in various locations also have helped us to identify litter “hot spots” which are worthy of ongoing attention. While Clean Gloucester Day focuses everyone’s attention on litter, we also are aware that many conscientious County residents pick up litter on a very regular basis in their neighborhoods and on roads where they regularly travel.
