Letter: Thanking the ‘Thin Blue Line’

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I was a soldier at one time, having served with the 82nd Airborne in Vietnam in 1968 during the Tet Offensive, and as such I know what combat is about. That being said, and having known a police officer, I fully support the sheriff, his deputies and police in general as they are the soldiers that create the “Thin Blue Line” that protects us from chaos.

They are in combat with crime every day, year in and year out. Is it not reasonable to expect there will not be a policeman who cracks? The police, especially in the big cities, face being shot or assaulted on a daily basis; all you have to do is listen to the news.

The left is now talking about abolishing police departments; have they lost their minds? Do they want to see chaos reign and cities being looted and burned?
