I recently read an article on “Gratitude vs. Thankfulness” where it was said that gratitude was having a deep and lasting appreciation for life, which can be cultivated even in difficult circumstances. It asked if my Thankfulness lives under an umbrella of Gratitude and if my gratitude was spoken aloud through words of Thankfulness?
Giving that a bit of thought, here’s what I came up with. Growing up in Mathews, as a child, I never gave much thought to the bigger outside world. All of my needs were met right here. A loving family, good neighbors, a church to attend, a number of grocery stores, two drugstores, clothing stores, a number of doctor’s offices, hardware and furniture stores, a number of law offices, and gas stations in every part of the county. We may occasionally travel to Newport News, Norfolk, or Richmond to shop if there was a “special occasion” coming up but really, all of my needs could be taken care of right at home.
