Letter: Teacher, do your homework

While Mr. Rusty West (“Supervisors’ eroding support for Gloucester schools,” May 19 Readers Write) did not disclose that he is a teacher in Gloucester County schools, the fact is that he is and this makes his comments somewhat less than objective. His vicious attack on three of the most productive supervisors on one of the most competent boards the county has had in over two decades is replete with misstatements that demonstrate a lack of fact checking.

Mr. West accuses three supervisors of engaging in a “constant cutting of the school’s budget.” The fact is that the amount that the BOS allocated to school was a virtually unanimous decision. Second, and more to the point, the board has not cut the school’s budget, but rather has increased the budget each year from the previous year’s budget. These numbers are readily available to all members of the public. Check the facts, Mr. West.
