Letter: Taylor for Congress

Editor, Gazette-Journal: Public media is the mechanism by which we stay informed of “the news.” I recall fondly our family evening ritual of turning into one of the three major networks, CBS, NBC or ABC, first for the local news and later for the national news. Our family received a morning and an evening paper, to stay informed. The internet has become a powerful force in “shaping the news.” It distresses me to see terms thrown around accusingly to win some political advantage. The age-old political tactic of using fear to generate distrust of groups of people resulted in abhorrent practices and policies, e.g., McCarthyism, that resulted in the destruction of thousands of Americans’ reputations and careers during the 1940s and 1950s. President Trump accuses Democrats of being Communists and Socialists when criticized for using his position as president to amass staggering amounts of wealth, including $1.4 billion in earnings from cryptocurrency holdings, $799 million from World Libert...
