Letter: T.C. Walker decision a result of economics

This letter is in response to many letters and community conversations criticizing Gloucester County Schools and its school board leaders.

First, a message to the T.C. Walker family: I grieve with you and for you. A school is more than a building, more than bricks and mortar—it is a family. You must feel like you have suffered a death in the family, and my Achilles family sympathizes, and has lifted you up daily in our prayers.

Secondly, despite popular opinion, this is not a question of black and white but of green. Our school division, unlike other government entities, cannot operate at a loss. As T.C. Walker was a) the smallest school, b) the most centrally located school, and c) the school most in need of physical renovation; it made sense that this school should be chosen over others to be closed. No one who actually knows any of the school board members personally would believe that this decision was made lightly, or out of any sense of bigo...
