This letter is in response to many letters and community conversations criticizing Gloucester County Schools and its school board leaders.

First, a message to the T.C. Walker family: I grieve with you and for you. A school is more than a building, more than bricks and mortar—it is a family. You must feel like you have suffered a death in the family, and my Achilles family sympathizes, and has lifted you up daily in our prayers.

Secondly, despite popular opinion, this is not a question of black and white but of green. Our school division, unlike other government entities, cannot operate at a loss. As T.C. Walker was a) the smallest school, b) the most centrally located school, and c) the school most in need of physical renovation; it made sense that this school should be chosen over others to be closed.
