Letter: Support GCPS

Editor, Gazette-Journal: The current GCPS budget is not just about numbers—it is about our students, teachers, families, and the future of Gloucester County. A common concern is how the budget can increase while enrollment declines. While that may seem contradictory, the reality is more complex. Many costs—health care, transportation, utilities, insurance, and mandated services—continue to rise regardless of student numbers. These are essential expenses that cannot be quickly reduced without affecting safety or basic operations. At the same time, fewer students do not eliminate the need for quality education. We still need qualified teachers, support staff, counselors, and specialists. In many ways, maintaining quality becomes more difficult—not less—when resources are stretched. We should also consider the community’s recent $90 million investment in Gloucester High School. That commitment reflects a belief that our schools matter.
