Letter: Support for Free Clinic was overwhelming

During the month of September, Chesapeake Bank held a fundraiser for the Gloucester-Mathews Free Clinic’s capital campaign. On behalf of the patients, staff and board of the GMFC, I want to thank all those individuals who donated and, most especially, the administrators and staff of the bank who worked so hard to make this effort a success.

Although originally the bank offered to match all the gifts up to a total of $5,000, in typical Chesapeake Bank fashion, when the final figure rose to $7,000, Chesapeake didn’t flinch but rather wrote a check to match the entire amount. We would also like to thank Dr. Melvin Ressler for his offer in the afternoon to match anyone’s donation of $50 or more.

A special thanks to radio station XTRA 99.1 for joining the bank on Friday, Sept. 20 to promote the clinic and the bank’s efforts. Who could ask for better recognition than from Gloucester’s own infamous Neal Steele and Reese Williams. ...
