Letter: Still not ‘on the map’

I read with interest your recent editorial concerning the omission of listings for Mathews and Gloucester in the latest travel guide published by the State of Virginia. I immediately went to the state tourism website (www.virginia.org) to check it out. Funny what made the list and what didn’t.

 

As one of the partners of Virginia’s Li’l Ole Opry at Donk’s Theater, I was once again surprised that even after being placed on the list of historical landmarks in Virginia and on the national level, and after many, many magazine articles and newspaper stories, Donk’s is still not “on the map” as far as Virginia tourism is concerned. Way back in the early ’80s, a prominent magazine lauded Donk’s as “the best kept entertainment secret in Tidewater.” I guess we still are!
