Letter: Stepping down after two decades

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the people of Mathews County for the privilege of serving on the Wetlands Board. I have been honored to spend twenty some years representing the citizens of Mathews and protecting the fragile wetlands that make our county so special.

The board of supervisors has decided to remove me from the wetlands board. I recognize that I serve at the pleasure of the board and I respect their decision. I am confident that the remaining members and my replacement will continue to uphold the wetlands law and protect the environment while respecting property owners’ rights.

To the many citizens and wetlands professionals with whom I have enjoyed working over these twenty plus years, thank you for making the time so special. To those who orchestrated my removal, all due respect. Touché, Mrs. Putt.
