Letter: Standing up to government bureaucrats

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

First off, I want to say that I am an “old guy,” not very good with a computer, who has lived under 10 presidents over the past 69 years. I have seen sadly how progressive government has taken our freedoms away one at a time, accelerating under the current administration. The floodplain plan for Mathews County is once again a “we have to pass it before we know what is in it” plan.

Finally, we the citizens of Mathews County are standing up to government bureaucrats that think they know better how to run our lives than we do.

The new FEMA plan was not vetted, read or digested intellectually by any responsible party. And, according to Charles Banks of the Virginia Department of Conservation, et al, we would all be forced from our homes if we did not blindly accept this document as written.

The citizens of Mathews County said “enough.” And isn’t that what the United States is all about?
