Yes, there are many Democrats in Mathews, Gloucester and Middlesex counties and we are working together to convert some of the disenchanted Republicans and having some luck, especially with veterans.

Many other volunteers and I have worked the precincts outside Mathews elections for many years, and often have been ignored. You could almost tell who was a Republican. They wouldn’t even look at us, wouldn’t respond to our greetings and occasionally gave a nasty remark or two.

How different Mathews Market Days was, as many people came by to greet us, and thanked us for being there. We had many positive remarks. A nice gentleman walked by, just kept on walking and said “I’m 65 years old, a Republican all my life, but these Republicans have made a Democrat out of me.” We all cheered.

I can’t help but be excited; there is something in the air. Do something and help us keep this good, kind and exciting feeling going. Visit us and help at the combined Gloucester office at the Gloucester Library shopping center next to the Gloucester Post Office (Tuesdays through Sundays, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.). Vote for Kamala Harris, Tim Walz, Tim Kaine and Leslie Mehta. Early voting starts Sept. 20. See you there.
