Letter: Smith for treasurer

I have evaluated my options for the Gloucester Treasurer’s race and based on the facts, our citizens deserve a change! Taxpayers need a treasurer who works for them, and who stays abreast with current automation and is committed to providing superior service to the citizens of our county.

I have requested and received delinquent tax list from the treasurer. In the past 14 years delinquent real estate and personal property taxes have increased from $912,831.66 to $1,732,137.12. That is an increase of 89.755 percent. The increase in taxable values has not risen proportionately to the delinquencies. Do you find that acceptable?

For the past 20 years, we have had no improvement in online processing of payment options. Not once has automation to provide innovative automation been a subject of discussion, much less action, by our current treasurer.
