Letter: Smith for treasurer

I had the opportunity to meet with both Gloucester Treasurer candidates at the Guinea Jubilee, as well as at the recent candidate forum.  As I attended the candidate forum, several questions were asked. For example, in 2004 the current Treasurer’s office had $912,831.66 in delinquent taxes. In 2019, the delinquent taxes rose to $1,732,137.12.  The incumbent could not clearly state how this debt rose 90 percent in fifteen years while in office. This is totally unacceptable to the citizens of Gloucester County.

When asked about twice monthly pay for county and school employees, the current Treasurer did not appear to want to help these individuals. It is an embarrassment that an elected official would not look for a solution to help county and school employees get paid twice monthly.
