Letter: School system needs better management

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I am writing this letter after a woman affiliated with the school system called me and asked me to come to the meeting to support the increase in money for the schools. She was calling all kinds of businesses to come and support them.

I told her that the school system didn’t support local businesses; that none of the local people got any work on the building of the new school and they got people from Richmond to do their asphalt paving. But, most important was the waste of taxpayer money. The new Page Middle School could have been built back on the old site. There was plenty of land and didn’t need a new sewer pump station, water, road widening, traffic light and new parking lot. And wetlands were destroyed. They wasted $6-$7 million 

on this alone.

Also, the new school has 453 students, which is less than the old school, which had 517 students in 2010. If we didn’t build the Page school where it is now, we would have saved $15-$16 mi...
