Letter: Russian meddling

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

At a recent CircleUp meeting in Gloucester (“Russian meddling in U.S. elections topic of Sunday’s talk,” page 20A, Nov. 28 Gazette-Journal), speakers spoke on the Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election.

We have heard for three years that President Trump colluded with Russia to influence the voters against Hillary; indeed, Adam Schiff said repeatedly that he had proof positive of that. But, since the Mueller Report has been released, the hue and cry by the No-Trumpers has been changed to the Points of Impeachment.

As it happens, there was Russian meddling in the 2016 U.S. election. It came when the Hillary Clinton campaign violated election laws when it paid British citizen Christopher Steele to gather Kremlin-provided political dirt on candidate Donald Trump. That is certainly Russian meddling in a U.S. election.

That should have been a point of interest at the CircleUp meeting, though I heard no mention of it.
