Letter: Rescuing a dog in need

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

This past Monday I took my dog, Bailey, to Woodville Park to let her run off some energy. This was the first nice day after six days of rain. At the park they are building football and soccer fields for the county. Bailey fell into this huge pit where they are getting dirt for the fields. The pit is about 20 feet deep with about five feet of water in it. She loves the water and that explains the situation she got herself into.

Chris Clifford was working a bulldozer and saw the trouble I was in. He stopped what he was doing and came over, he climbed into the pit, swam to Bailey and carried her to where she could get out. He was up to his neck in water. If he hadn’t been there I don’t know what I would have done; you see I’m no spring chicken and I don’t get around like I used to. The good Lord works in mysterious ways.
