Letter: Removing memorials

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

As I visited my parents’ grave at St. Paul’s Church in Mathews yesterday afternoon while visiting family, I was sad to see the arrangement I had made for their burial place had been taken.

It had been up for about two weeks. I can only think someone liked it enough and thought they needed it more for their departed loved one than my family did. Maybe that is true. My parents wouldn’t want me to make a big issue of this. Then I learned that it was the second time an arrangement I made had been taken. The graves are near the road, so it is easily visible to passersby.

This message is to the one(s) who took it: I will make an arrangement for your family member if you cannot afford to put something on the grave. I can arrange to leave it or meet you with it. I believe my parents know that I act out of love and I will not let your actions take my focus from my dear mom and dad. Maybe in your mind, you are doing the same.
