Letter: Remembering a wonderful therapy dog

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

Roxy spent her life with me, from six years on, replacing another wonderful therapy dog. Roxy loved obedience training and, once completed, she and my border collie, Summer, visited many facilities in the Tidewater area. After moving to Mathews, we went to the Riverside Convalescent Centers in Mathews, Saluda and West Point, plus anywhere else requested.

Abingdon Elementary School wanted a therapy dog for children to read to. Soon after, the Gloucester-Mathews dog group joined with us under the direction of librarian Jill Tyler. Roxy and I were invited to summer school at Achilles Elementary School, where the librarian, Barbara Priest, was interested in having the program full time, so we would go there after the visit to Abingdon for two more years, until Barbara and Roxy retired.
