Letter: Reintroducing the Red Cross to Mathews

The measure of success for a town hall meeting is not always in the number of citizens who come to participate in the dialog but the success may be measured in the conversation, the ideas and vision shared. The discussion last Thursday evening relating to the re-emergence of the Red Cross as a Mathews County entity may be considered a success.

The Red Cross presence in Mathews County has been absent for at least the past 16 years. To develop a presence in Mathews County, reintroduction and an introduction is needed. Consider that the younger residents (the school-age population) may only know of the Red Cross from media headlines while others may well remember that … in the day, the Red Cross provided classes and services to the county.
