Letter: Referendum a fair decision

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I was encouraged by the Mathews Board of Supervisors meeting last Wednesday night and think commendations are in order for the board’s conducting of an efficient and orderly meeting. Also, a vote of confidence for Mathews law enforcement and Sheriff Barrick’s preparation and handling of what could have been an ugly and volatile situation. And lastly, to the citizens of Mathews … a heartfelt appreciation for the time and commitment it took for you to express your concerns and feelings, either written or in person and on both sides of the question at hand. The silent majority finally found their voices and quite eloquently as well.

I feel that a referendum is a fair decision and will allow time for de-escalation, processing all the factors, and coming to a rational decision that is driven by the will of the citizenry and majority vote. In this time of violence and wanton destruction of property and attempted erasing of American history, Mathews stands apar...
