To hopefully reduce the anxiety of readers of this letter I wish to state I own guns and support the ownership of guns for anyone in compliance with current regulations on gun ownership.

However, I am not able to understand Representative Rob Wittman’s recent yes vote on House Joint Resolution 40 to nullify an Obama administration rule to notify the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System of individuals receiving disability benefits on the basis of mental impairment. This action is particularly bothersome in light of the number of recent domestic shootings by individuals who had mental difficulties.
