Letter: Public servants do amazing things

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

Please join the local Middle Peninsula National Active and Federal Employees (NARFE) Chapter 1757 during May 3-9 in celebrating Public Service Recognition Week. This week honors military, federal, state, county and local government employees whose hard work has made our government the best in the world.

This year’s theme is “Government Works.” Public servants do amazing things across our great nation, around the world, and in your hometown and community. Federal employees work side by side with our military to defend our country.

Government would not function efficiently without the dedication and tireless efforts of its workforce, and we would like to take this opportunity to recognize the daily challenges of public service and celebrate the accomplishments of the women and men who answer the call and dedicate their lives to serving the American people.

They conduct cutting-edge research to improve public health and regulate the safety of our food and medicines. And right here in Virginia, air traffic controllers ensure the safety of thousands of passengers every year at airports throughout Virginia.

During this week and throughout the year, we encourage the public to communicate to friends, neighbors, and others the benefits and value of the work done by public servants. Whether you are a federal employee or retiree, we want to thank you for your service and your contribution to our country.
