Editor, Gazette-Journal: This is not an editorial about politics. I could certainly argue politics with the best of them—I have a PhD in public policy; professional advocacy experience on Capitol Hill; volunteered on a number of local, state and national campaigns; and been an ardent voter for candidates from an array of political parties for over four decades. Instead of being another useless diatribe on which party or elected official is “right” and which is “wrong,” this is written from the heart, as someone who loves her country and who is grieving over the growing conflict and division among us in the UNITED States of America. I am feeling profound sorrow over the recent inhumane—even fatal—treatment of people on our sacred soil of all ages, genders, races, political leanings, and walks of life, without due process of law, which is supposed to be a cornerstone of our country.
