Letter: Praise for Wittman and the defense budget

Recently our defense budget was signed into law on time for the first time in a decade. Being a veteran, I strongly believe this happened due to legislators like Congressman Wittman who have been doing the behind-the-scenes work for years to secure proper funding for our troops to rebuild our equipment so they can safely execute our missions.

From bringing legislators to Hampton Roads to observe the shipbuilding process, to refusing to vote for last-minute spending extensions that exacerbated the problem of uncertain military funding, the congressman has been an unwavering voice for our troops. He meets with shipbuilders that commute from the Middle Peninsula, and the small businesses across the Peninsula and Hampton Roads that supply high tech jobs for this region and create secure technology for our military.

People don’t realize how competitive it is to keep those jobs in this state, and thanks to Congressman Wittman for doing it.
