Letter: Praise for the humane society

I’m responding to the concerns voiced about the Gloucester-Mathews Humane Society. I first have to admit I didn’t know a whole lot about what they do. Over the past years, my husband and I made small donations, as requested, but that was about it.

I’d like to tell you about my recent experience when adopting a six-month-old tortoiseshell kitty, now named Mandy. After visiting my daughter in Florida and becoming fond of her cat, I decided I needed to add a cat to my family of one poodle and one lab. I called and asked what was available, preferably young, as I felt that would be an easier adjustment to our family.

I could not have had better service, from phone calls and my arrival to see what I would pick. There was careful paperwork and visit, making sure I would be a good choice for their animal. I got advice on how to integrate her with my existing family. They were so thorough that I began to believe maybe I wouldn’t qualify.
