Editor, Gazette-Journal:

How could anyone think that those of us who own property in Mathews don’t pay taxes? We bought our place in 1970, moved permanently there in 1982 and stayed until 2009, when health issues forced us to move.

I still have my house, which I will not sell; I have been paying taxes to Mathews—real estate and personal property—for 40 years. Have the people who are complaining done the same? I still come to Mathews for dentist, acupuncture, shopping, and social activities. Please, complainers—get real.
