Letter: Parker for Gloucester School Board

I am writing to endorse Anita Parker for reelection to the Gloucester County School Board. Normally this is unnecessary, because she usually runs unopposed. This cycle, however, the board of supervisors has decided that they should recruit candidates for school board positions currently held by members who do not kowtow to them (the supervisors). Anita is on their target list due to her history of actually voting her conscience.

This is precisely why we have elected school boards—to keep the political horse manure out of the process. When the supervisors get the sorry mess they make on a regular basis cleaned up, I’ll consider letting them set financial policy. In the meantime, I suggest they fully fund the school needs of this county for the first time in 35 years and get the hell out of the way.
