Letter: One of Gloucester P&R’s greatest assets

In one week, Gloucester County will lose through retirement one of its greatest assets for the past 38 years, namely Billy Moore, our Parks and Recreation Athletic Director. His influence over the years in athletic programs in the county has led to a steadfast philosophy of fair play time for all in the youth sports programs and good sportsmanship regardless of age.

He developed an expansive volunteer base over the years that has saved Gloucester County substantial amounts of money annually and helped keep P&R fees reasonable. At the last P&R recognition dinner, Denise Carter referred to those volunteers as “Billy’s people,” and she was right. Billy’s passion for just about any sport, coupled with his enthusiasm for helping our county youth through team sports, has generated a following that has had some of us “old timers” volunteering well over 25 years.
