Letter: On textbook adoption

Citizens of Mathews were virtually insulted by a majority of their school board on Tuesday, May 17 at their regular board meeting. The matter of school textbook approval was an agenda item for them to approve or reject as their review of the proposed texts would lead them to do.

Approved texts are typically used for a seven-year period. Fortunately, a short “Citizen Review” period was provided so that others could peruse the texts and provide written feedback to be considered as well. Several citizens, including Dr. Mari Gibbs, participated in this process and did submit reports identifying what can be described as disgusting content.
