Letter: On scandals and public service

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

This letter is in reference to Dawn Dale’s July 18 letter to the editor ("Hypocrisy in American politics").

Her very first paragraph brings to mind how our President Barack Obama has been targeted since he came into office. Her own words, "dumpster diving," are so accurate in the way some politicians have gone after our president, hoping to find a scandal.

They don’t seem to mind working overtime in that endeavor, but try to get them to work for the betterment of the country. Forget it.

Unethical behavior and a sense of entitlement are not against the law, but they are unattractive in anyone, especially in politicians.

Her statement that Governor McDonnell was targeted because he is a Republican is ludicrous. An investigation into the activity of a former chef at the executive mansion uncovered Governor McDonnell’s improprieties. That’s it. No more, no less.
