Editor, Gazette-Journal:

Kudos to our Mathews County Supervisor, Edwina Casey! A lost dog showed up at our home with two collars but no clear name or phone number. The first advice we received was that the dog would probably find her way home, but she seemed to have adopted our yard where she played and the mat on the side porch where she slept.

A few more calls, later, and Supervisor Casey, who loves animals, drove up and with closer inspection of one of the collars, saw the name of a farm about a mile from us. She took responsibility for the dog and took her back to her owners. We are sure that was not in her job description!
