Letter: Not listening to the public will

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I attended the Gloucester Board of Supervisors’ meeting on April 27 at the old courthouse. They were discussing the taxes the board is arguing to levy on property. Three-quarters of public speakers and two of seven supervisors were against the 5.9 percent pay raise for county employees, while a quarter of the public was for raising the levy, along with five BOS members.

It is clear that with this kind of statistical evidence that the BOS had their minds made up to increase the levy before the hearing. One BOS member even stated that his constituents begged him to increase the levy! This will add 3 percent to your property tax.

The BOS is not listening to the public will. I think more of us need to show up for these hearings.
