Letter: Not clear why action being considered

Thank you for the detailed descriptions of the Mathews County Board of Supervisors’ meetings. Many citizens of Mathews County are unable to attend and appreciate having access to this information.

Thank you for your recent editorial, “Due diligence,” in which you remind us: “The Mathews Court Green has been a public space for everyone in the community for more than 200 years.” Mathews County accepted the vote to keep the Confederate statue where it is; there were no demonstrations or great public outrage. It is not clear why the board of supervisors (with the notable exception of Melissa Mason) should believe it necessary or legal to sell this or any other piece of the Court Green.
