Letter: Not appropriate

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

At the last Mathews County Planning Commission meeting, two members of the board of supervisors attended the meeting and spoke during the public comment period. Both directed their comments at a member of the commission and were threatening and derogatory in nature. They asked him to resign because he had asked a question on behalf of a citizen about one of those two members of the BOS.

This is not the way to attract or keep qualified and interested citizens to serve on our volunteer boards. In addition, it is particularly inappropriate for a board member to come to a planning commission meeting with the intent to insult and attempt to intimidate one of its members. This is simply not appropriate for the position of public trust they have been given by the voters who deserve their board to follow standards of courtesy, professionalism, and competence in the interest of the public.
