Letter: No Kings Day

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
There were 325 proud and patriotic citizens joyfully and peacefully expressing our First Amendment rights at Liberty Square in Mathews on Saturday. Thank you to all who made the effort to be there to defend our democracy, to defend our Constitution and to defend the rule of law!
We were grateful to the Mathews County Sheriff’s Office who came by to express our right to be there and who stood by to ensure our safety. Thank you from all of us.
It was heartening to be shown overwhelming support by the passing vehicles honking and giving us the thumbs up sign! We’ve been meeting at Liberty Square each Tuesday at 5 p.m. to exercise our First Amendment right and have noticed more and more passersby giving us positive support. The few pickup trucks that drove by showing their opposition also made us smile because we were standing together for all Americans, including those who don’t agree with us, to express their First Amendment rights as well!
My only disappointment...
