Letter: New use of Callis house is fitting

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

On behalf of myself and my family, I would like to say thank you to those who were involved with saving the Callis house. The house was built by my great-grandfather, and I lived there until I was three years old.

I have many good memories of my grandparents and the many friends who visited that old house. I spent many nights and weekends there as I was growing up and remember the delicious meals my grandmother cooked, as well as the love that was always a part of my life there. 

I am also very pleased to hear that it is being turned into a bed and breakfast inn. I feel that is very fitting, as my grandmother rented rooms many times over the years. And even though meals were not included in the rent, no one ever went hungry when they stayed there.

Several single teachers coming to Mathews for their first teaching assignments lived in that house for a time until they got on their feet and could get a place of their own.
