Letter: My special blessing

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

As I sit writing this, I am hot, sweaty, tired and filled with gratitude. Diane Bing, Sarah Crockett and I have been loading and moving food that was donated to the Mathews County Meals on Wheels program by Sterling Hudgins, owner of Best Value Supermarket. The closing of Best Value has been difficult for the residents of Mathews, our vacation homeowners, and many organizations in our county.

We begin preparing our meals for our Meals on Wheels patrons at 6:30 a.m. and often when I would leave the YMCA in the early morning I would run in to get something we needed for the day before they were open for business. I would get what was needed and holler to Steve, “I will be back later to settle up.” (Only in Mathews!) My “Y” friends thought I was completing my workout and then heading to Best Value to meet the early-morning Krispy Kreme truck!

We will miss not only the market but also the interaction with each and every employee. Everyone...
