Letter: More information needed

Editor, Gazette-Journal:

I appreciate the personal response from Rep. Wittman (“A champion for broadband,” Dec. 30 Readers Write) to my letter to the editor regarding broadband support for rural areas. However, I believe more information is needed to appreciate his position on broadband support for District 1 voters.

First, it would be informative for him to disclose the amount of funding he has been responsible for obtaining for broadband expansion in District 1—vis-a-vis the $100 million that Virginia is estimated to receive from HB 3684 the “Infrastructure Act.”

The “Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act” is expected to provide Virginia:

$7 billion for federal-aid highways, $537 million for bridge replacement and repairs over five years, $1.2 billion to improve public transportation options over five years, $106 million to expand an EV charging network in Virginia over five years, $100 million to help provide broadband coverage, $15 million to protect against wildfires...
