Letter: More budget deliberation needed

How much time do you spend working on your finances, taxes, budgeting and/or balancing your checkbook?

Our Mathews supervisors (all except newly elected Amy Dubois) seem to be following the lead of the U.S. Congress as they spent only one hour before voting to move forward with the draft of their budget.

Really? It only took them one hour to decide how to allocate our money?

They spent one hour reading the 26-page document Superintendent Nancy Welch prepared explaining in great detail why the school system is requesting the amount submitted. When supervisor Amy Dubois asked for additional time to research the effects of lack of funding on the school system as well as other organizations, she was told they always do this at budget time.
