Editor, Gazette-Journal:The revelation that Attorney General Jason Miyares played a role in orchestrating a cover-up of the UVA mass shooting makes him unfit to continue to hold public office. He should resign.Other mass shootings in Virginia resulted in the establishment of investigative commissions to analyze the crime. Miyares was in the House of Delegates and co-sponsored the bill creating a commission to investigate the Virginia Beach Mass Shooting in 2019.He knows the value of an investigative commission in uncovering the truth versus a “report” that simply chronicles what happened. So why did Miyares’s office hire a law firm for nearly $1.2 million to write a “report” on the UVA tragedy?Virginia has a sovereign immunity law capping the most the sovereign (the state of Virginia) can be sued for at $100,000.
