Letter: Michelangelo’s drawings at W&M

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
With current attention on the death of Pope Francis and the election of Pope Leo in the Sistine Chapel in the Vatican, thoughts come to mind of Michelangelo’s great masterwork—the Sistine ceiling.
And guess what? We have Michelangelo’s preparatory drawings for the ceiling right here in Virginia, right now at the Muscarelle Museum at the College of William and Mary. The exhibit is extraordinary and is supported by a large reproduction of the whole ceiling so you can really see what images on the final ceiling the drawings relate to.
Many of these works have never left Italy before and probably won’t ever again. If you have been to Rome and seen the painting, the show is a great refresher. If you have never seen the Sistine Chapel, this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for all ages.
Thank you, Muscarelle! For more information, go to muscarelle.wm.edu.
