Letter: Mathews tennis courts need repairing, too

Editor, Gazette-Journal:
Last week’s Gazette-Journal stated that the Mathews County Board of Supervisors had approved withdrawing $91,000 from the reserve fund to pay for replacing playground equipment at the public park near the high school.
It is wonderful to have such a place in Mathews for our children and parents to enjoy; however, there are tennis courts at our park that need repairing, too. Not only are the courts used by the public, but our tennis team at the high school plays on them. They have been very successful. I would hate to see the sport abandoned because our county doesn’t consider repairing them. Point being, why hasn’t the request to repair the tennis courts been considered? This request was presented to the board last year and was to be brought up again this year. 
The paint has worn off so badly that the white lines can barely be seen and the cracks are getting larger and will affect the bounce of the ball. If they aren’t repaired soon...
