Letter: March for Meals

Bay Aging is joining thousands of other organizations across the country to celebrate March for Meals, a monthlong community celebration of Meals on Wheels and the vulnerable seniors who rely on this vital service to remain independent in their homes.

The annual March for Meals commemorates the historic day in March of 1972 when President Nixon signed into law a measure that amended the Older Americans Act of 1965 and established a national nutrition program for seniors 60 years and older. As a board director and longtime supporter of Meals on Wheels, I ask others in my community to join me in celebration by volunteering to deliver meals and donating to the Bay Aging Meals on Wheels program to fill the gap between the seniors served and those still in need.

Last year, dedicated volunteers delivered 156,970 meals to seniors across the Middle Peninsula and Northern Neck. Meanwhile, over 11,800 meals were served to seniors who attend their local senior center. ...
